Teething can be a trigger for nappy rash
Most babies start teething at around six months. However, all babies are different and the timing of teething varies. Some babies are born with their first teeth. Others start teething before they are four months old, and some after 12 months1.
Most children will have all of their first teeth, also known as milk teeth by the time they are two and a half years old.

Some parents report an increase in nappy rash around the time of teething2. This could be due to the extra saliva produced during teething, which may be linked to looser stools and an increased possibility of nappy rash2.
When to seek medical advice
If your baby’s behaviour seems unusual, or their teething symptoms are severe or causing you concern, then seek medical advice. You can call NHS 111 or contact your GP1.
